Casey Chmielewski
As the managing partner of the firm, Casey is responsible for the day to day operations of the firm's two office locations. In addition to managing the firm, Casey actively practices in each of the firm's focus areas of bankruptcy, estate planning and family law.
Casey believes it is essential to listen to his clients so he can fully understand their goals and objectives regarding their legal matter. He prides himself on personally ensuring each client is fully informed of all legal options to make the best decision regarding the direction of his or her case. Once that guidance is provided, he tirelessly works to achieve the client's goal.
Casey came to Berg & Chmielewski following a 24 year career in the Coast Guard, in which he served as a military judge for seven years and honorably retired from a position as the general counsel of the Coast Guard's mid-Atlantic region. He spent his career committed to helping the men and women who serve. During his time in uniform, he was twice recognized by the American Bar Assocation with the LAMP Award, which recognizes excellence in the delivery of legal assistance to service members and their families.
Casey is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, was named a 2017 & 2016 "Top Lawyer" by Who's Who, North America, a 2017 "Lawyers of Distinction" member and is rated as "Excellent" by AVVO.
Casey is committed to giving back to his community. He is on the Board of Directors of the Southern Chesapeake Athletic Association, serves as a youth baseball coach, is a "Watchdog" volunteer at two local elementary schools, is an active member of the Knights of Columbus and is a lector at his church.
He is a graduate of the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and is admitted to practice in front of all courts in Virginia, the Federal Eastern District of Virginia, the Eastern District of Virginia Bankruptcy Court, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association, a member of the Bankruptcy and Family Law Sections of the Virginia State Bar.
